A 65-year-old man has died after an incident at a Sutherland beauty spot.
The alarm was raised at Sango Sands at Durness on Wednesday afternoon after two swimmers, believed to be visitors to the area, got into difficulties.
Two surfers saw the pair washed up on the beach.
One of the surfers, who did not wish to be named, said: “The sea was nasty – it wasn’t great conditions.
“But it’s just so tragic what has happened. We did everything we could.”
Coastguard teams from Durness, Melness and Kinlochbervie attended the scene, along with a helicopter.
A police spokesman said:”There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
