Concerns are growing for the welfare of a man who has been missing from Oban for a week.
Police are appealing for the public’s assistance in trying to find Daniel Sirrell, 65, who was last seen at 11.20pm on Saturday, November 23, on George Street in the town.
Officers said he had been staying at the Lancaster Hotel on Corran Esplanade, but hasn’t been spotted at the hotel for a number of days.
Mr Sirrell was reported missing to police on Wednesday, November 27.
He is described as being white, around 5ft 8in in height, with a stocky build. He has short grey hair and a grey/white beard. When last seen, he was wearing a black Canada Goose parka, with a white fur-trimmed hood, a turquoise t-shirt, with a large letter B on the chest, dark-coloured trousers and dark boots.
Inquiries carried out by police so far have revealed Mr Sirrell was in Auley’s Bar in Aird’s Crescent from around 9pm to 11pm. He left the bar and headed back along George Street in the direction of the Lancaster Hotel.
A police spokesman said: “Daniel has only just moved to Oban from Glasgow and officers are unaware of any family or relatives in this area. Concern for his well-being is growing as no-one has seen or heard from him since Saturday.
“Officers continue to check CCTV footage from around the town for any additional information which could assist them in locating Daniel.
“Anyone who may have seen Daniel or who has any information or knowledge as to his whereabouts is asked to contact officers at Oban Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 0767 of November 27 2019.”
Following an initial appeal for information earlier in the week, members of the public alerted police about a man who had been seen sleeping rough in the town centre.
It has been established that this was not Mr Sirrell.
The police spokesman added: “Daniel Sirrell is still missing and officers have spoken to a man who people have described as sleeping rough in Oban.
“This person has been spoken to by officers and is safe and well. We continue to appeal for help in trying to locate Daniel and we thank everyone for sharing our information.”
