One of the most isolated railway station buildings in Britain has gone on sale, offering potential buyers a wonderful “secret” retreat.
The three-bedroom Station Cottage at Altnabreac in the far north of Scotland is a family home but it was originally the railway station and first opened in 1874. It is still used as a request stop on the far north line.
Accessed through the Caithness Flow Country by six miles of forest road or by train, the cottage is being sold with two additional properties – a single-storey former deer larder and Badnaheen Cottage, a disused single-storey stone cottage one mile south of Station Cottage.
The total price is £160,000.
