A nurse who was so dedicated to her profession that she undertook a weekly commute of 250 miles each way to attend university has celebrated graduating with a master’s degree from RGU.
After demonstrating her dedication week in week out by making the trip from her home in South Uist to Aberdeen, Annie-Theresa Macdonald accepted her Master’s degree in advanced nursing practice after all her hard work.
The 27-year-old, from Barra, decided RGU was the best place to undertake the MSc advanced nursing practice course.
Ms Macdonald said: “This is something that I have wanted to do ever since I saw how well looked after my granddad was when he became ill.
“The nurses who looked after him inspired me to help others and have driven me to succeed and become a district nurse.”
While she regularly made the three-part journey from her home to Benbecula to Glasgow then finally Aberdeen for face-to-face learning, much of her course was completed online while working full-time as a district nurse.
After completing her studies she will continue to serve as a district nurse for her home island South Uist, Benbecula and Eriskay.
