VIDEO: Is a photo worth it? Footage shows potential dangers of taking photographs at seafront in bad weather

The RNLI team in Lerwick has issued a reminder to people of the dangers of taking photographs too close to the seafront.

The team are asking ‘Is a photo worth it?’ as they shared footage showing a person standing close to the edge at the town’s Small Boat Harbour.

Minutes later, after the person has left, a huge wave can be seen crashing down on the same spot.

A post on the RNLI’s Facebook group reads: “Is a photo worth it? These images were just a few minutes apart.

“As you can see, this person was standing in the exact spot where waves were washing over the pier all day long.

“Please don’t take any unnecessary risks in the name of a good shot during this windy period.”

In March a tourist was swept to her death by a wave at a Hebridean beauty spot.

Agnès Proudhon-Smith, who ran a studio in London, was taking photographs from rocks at Nisabost beach on Harris when tragedy struck.
