Sumburgh Airport in Shetland has been forced shut this evening because of severe weather. Bosses say their communications system has been affected, and that engineers are on the scene working to remedy the situation. A statement from a Highlands and Islands Airports spokesman said the terminal will be shut until at least 7pm. It read: “Engineers are currently working to resolve the situation. “We would advise passengers expecting to travel to contact their airlines. “We apologise for any inconvenience and the airport will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.”
