A good Samaritan has been praised for reuniting a pensioner with their weekly allowance after it went missing in Dingwall.
The incident occurred yesterday after the man realised he had lost his money on the town’s High Street.
Disaster was averted as the man attended the local police station to establish that the good Samaritan had already beaten him to the building, with officers safeguarding the money and awaiting his arrival.
Local Sergeant Ross Hamill said: “We were delighted to be able to reunite the gentleman with the money he had dropped earlier.
“I would also like to thank the member of the public who kindly took it to the police station when they found it in the street.
“This was the honest and right thing to do and I’m sure it was greatly appreciated by the gentleman.”
Dingwall councillor Graham MacKenzie said he was “delighted” to learn of the outcome.
Mr MacKenzie said: “In times of strife, it is always nice to hear of something like this.
“You would hope everybody would hand in the money if they came across it but the temptation is there. It is great to see that this person has not succumb to that temptation.
“Without the money Christmas may not have been as merry as it may be for the pensioner so I offer huge commendation to the good Samaritan.”
