Two Inverness personal bankers have turned their sights from finance to food to cook for a local charity.
Sarah Procter and Nicola Wylie of Santander Bank in High Street have been preparing hot meals at Culduthel Christian Centre for Food For Families.
Ms Procter, originally from Nottingham, said: “I met Alex Gilchrist, manager of Gateway, which is operating the initiative and she told me how busy they were supplying meals to needy families in the Inverness area over the peak winter period.
“Nicola and I discussed it and decided to do what we could to help – and we’re thoroughly enjoying the work.”
Ms Wylie, an Orcadian, said: “Sarah and I have been getting stuck in, making mince and tatties, and it’s very satisfying.”
Consignments of meals have been delivered to the James Cameron Community Centre, Dalneigh Primary School, Cauldeen Primary, and St Josephs Primary for distribution to families identified as requiring assistance.
Highland Council’s Social Work Department has also accepted a delivery to be handed out in Easter Ross.
Alex Gilchrist said: “You can never have too many volunteers. Sarah and Nicola deserve great credit for coming forward and giving up their time.
“Recipients of the food are mostly on the poverty line and they are extremely grateful.”
Donations of food, particularly tinned goods, are very welcome at Gateway’s HQ in Church Street.
