It all started with a simple, one-night-a-week youth club.
But with Fiona Kalache at the helm, Mid Argyll Youth Development Services (MAYDS) became a community company offering a huge range of services.
Ms Kalache of Lochgilphead has been made an MBE for services to Young People in Mid Argyll.
She said: “I am shocked, delighted. It is just unexpected. It is a team effort. I’m just one person, there are a lot of people involved in making the youth project happen – the staff, volunteers and the young people.”
During the time the 42-year-old has been manager, the total funds brought in have exceeded £1million.
MAYDS works will young people of all ages up to 25 and offers a cyber-cafe, meeting rooms, trips, community cinema and swimming.
The company works with a wide range of young people including carers, parents, people with disabilities and those looking for fun activities.
