Nearly 40 years of voluntary service with Invergordon Lifeboat has culminated in a mariner being made an MBE.
Capt Iain Christopher Dunderdale, 73, was responsible for launching the lifeboat for 36 years after he moved to the Highlands in 1981.
During that time, he also worked for Port of Cromarty Firth and brought thousands of cruise ships to Invergordon.
Prior to coming to the Highlands, the Glasgow-born man pursued a career at sea before gaining his masters certificate to command any ship.
For his first year with the lifeboat, he was deputy launching authority before becoming station honorary secretary, a role which is now known as lifeboat operations manager.
The coastguard would contact him to request the lifeboat to launch. He was on call 24-hours a day. Other responsibilities included helping to run the station, write letters and carry out fundraising.
Mr Dunderdale said: “I was just a cog in the wheel.”
