Organisers of the Inverness Music Festival have been flooded with entries for this year’s event.
About 520 children, young people and adults have signed up so far for the competition taking place at Eden Court next month; an increase on last year’s 498 entrants.
The level of entrants marks a growing interest for the charity event, which organisers say comes thanks to the new online application process.
Committee member Nick Speakman said the level of entrants were “heading in the right direction”.
He said: “The entrant numbers had started to drop a little bit over the last four or five years and a group of us came together to try and rescue it. With our renewed efforts, the number have gone up this year compared to last year. It’s definitely heading in the right direction.”
During the week-long festival – taking place from February 27 to March 4 – a number of new competitions will take place including a piano competition surrounding the theme of dance as well as a musical theatre performance section sponsored by Starlight Musical Theatre.
Late applicants will now be received until January 10 with applicants urged to email the admin team if interested.
Organisers are also appealing for further volunteers to help support the event, with individuals required to have no qualifications or prior experience.
