Athletes in the Outer Hebrides are being encouraged to apply to a travel scheme designed to assist them in progressing their sporting careers.
The Islands Athlete Travel Award Scheme enables up to eight athletes to benefit from support with travel costs to allow better access to competitive and developmental opportunities on the mainland.
Grants of £1,500 per person are being offered, with applications invited to cover the financial period 2020 to 2021.
Awards will be allocated through the application process with athletes required to display evidence of how the grant will improve their performance, provide them access to quality training opportunities and improve their sports or club environment.
sportscotland chief executive Stewart Harris said the body was “delighted” to support the scheme.
Western Isles Councillor Angus McCormack said that the scheme had been a “fantastic addition” to the support Western Isles Council is able to provide its elite athletes.
He anticipates a “high level of applicants for this year’s grants”.
The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday, February 14.
