Royal Dornoch Golf Club has cause for celebration after being ranked as best in the world by leading online golf reservation service golfscape.
The famed links course came top of a list of the 100 best golf courses for 2020, selected by an expert judging panel.
The championship course trumped eight fellow Scottish courses, with the Old Course at St Andrews taking sixth spot and the Ailsa Course at Trump Turnberry in 15th.
Neil Hampton, general manager of Royal Dornoch Golf Club, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and a great tribute to everyone at the club who work hard to make our historic course a must-play venue for today’s golfers.
“The quality of the course and our history, including our links to Old Tom Morris and Donald Ross, is a winning combination.”
And as the golf club celebrates, it has now set the ambitious target of helping its community fund reach the £50,000 mark.
The fund, which was set up five years ago, is distributed annually to benefit the “common good of the local community” and uses a percentage of the net green fee income from visiting players.
Last year, £10,500 was distributed by the golf club to assist in the restoration of the school garden at Dornoch Academy, purchase new kitchen equipment for Dornoch Fire Station and provide transport to summer activities for 1st Dornoch Boys Brigade.
In total £38,500 has been distributed to date.
Applications are open for grants and should be submitted to Mr Hampton no later than Friday, February 14.
