Caithness and Sutherland Vintage Vehicle Club has been saved from the chop after volunteers responded to a SOS to save the body which runs a popular car rally.
After all its office-bearer posts remained vacant following its AGM last month, local enthusiasts were urged to step up to the plate.
They answered the call at Sunday’s extraordinary general meeting in Mackays Hotel, Wick, attended by more than 30 people.
New chairman, retired Thurso joinery lecturer Kevin Sutherland, said yesterday: “I went along to show my support and to help ensure the club continues.
“It has been running for 50-odd years and it was a shame to see it in difficulties.
“The previous office-bearers had all done long stints and it was obviously time to get some fresh folk in.”
New club secretary is David Freedy, from Wick, with Bruce Tait, Thurso, having taken over as treasurer.
