Hundreds of people turned out for a walk in Lochaber yesterday to raise money for the Highland Hospice.
About 200 people took part in the annual fundraiser, which takes participants along the famous Caledonian Canal at Corpach.
The event is organised by Margaret Simpson and Sarah Walker in memory of their friend Heather Robertson, who was a patient at the hospice before her death in August 2007.
The pair originally planned Heather’s Walk as a one-off, but it is now in its seventh year and usually raises more than £6,000 for the hospice, which is the only one in region for adults with incurable, life-limiting disease.
The charity also provides specialist palliative care expertise throughout the region, often in patients’ own homes.
Ms Walker, of Fassfern, said: “Heather enjoyed walking and was at Highland Hospice while she was ill.
“The hospice really supported our friend so we wanted to do something to support the hospice and a sponsored walk seemed an appropriate way to raise money.”
The two-mile sponsored walk began and ended at Corpach, with participants hiking along the banks of canal to Banavie swing bridge before returning to Corpach on the footpath next to the A830 Fort William to Mallaig road.
