Plans for a new coach park in Drumnadrochit to ease pressure on parking at Urquhart Castle have been withdrawn.
Tourism operator Loch Ness by Jacobite took the decision following concerns about the proposal raised by the community.
Now a revised solution is being sought to cope with congestion on the busy A83 Inverness to Glasgow road and traffic issues in the village.
The application was developed by Loch Ness by Jacobite in consultation with Historic Environment Scotland (HES). It outlined plans for a dedicated Urquhart Castle overflow coach park located within the village.
While the need for additional capacity has been welcomed by local stakeholders, the plans in their current form attracted a wide range of comments.
Jacobite managing director Freda Newton said: “After carefully considering the comments raised in response to our planning application for additional coach parking in Drumnadrochit, we’ve taken the decision to withdraw the application.
“However, as the area continues to grow in popularity, the need for additional traffic management solutions to ease congestion on the A82 at the entrance to the Urquhart Castle car park and in the village is something that has been recognised by the local community.
“We’ve taken all feedback on board and going forward will continue to work closely with all involved parties to develop a collaborative and community-led solution for both the short and longer term.”
