John Currie, Visitor Services Supervisor at Glencoe, with his Hug of Heather
The National Trust for Scotland is asking people to show their love for Glencoe this Valentine’s Day by gifting a Hug of Heather in a bid to help thatch the roof of its 17th-century turf cottage.
Approximately 600 hug-sized bundles of heather are required to roof the recreated home, which is being brought to fruition to deliver a glimpse of how Highlanders lived and worked in the 17th century at one of the nation’s most iconic spots.
One hug of heather can be purchased for £20, and a card and pack of heather seeds will be sent to the Valentine’s recipients to serve as a lasting reminder of their contribution.
Emily Bryce, operations manager at Glencoe, said: “Giving a hug of heather is a Valentine’s gift with a difference – perfect for those looking for a thoughtful expression of their affection for a loved one who shares their passion for Scotland’s mountain heritage.”
