Senior politicians from all parties are expected to attend the funeral of former long-serving far north MP Robert Maclennan in London on Tuesday.
The 83-year-old died following failing health he suffered after the onset of a dementia-related condition.
He won nine general elections out of nine in Caithness and Sutherland and Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross, representing three different parties down the years.
The former Labour junior minister defected to the Social Democratic Party, which he went on to briefly lead.
He stepped down as a Lib Dem MP in 2001 and joined the House of Lords as Baron Maclennan of Rogart.
His funeral is on Tuesday in St Paul’s Church, Covent Garden, at 11am.
His family are also to hold a memorial service in Sutherland.
