The Highlands has scooped a prestigious travel magazine award.
The north has been named the Best UK Destination for the second year running at the Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards
With a remarkable 98.33% satisfaction rating, the region achieved an even higher figure than it had scored the previous year.
The Highlands beat Brighton into second place and the New Forest into third, with the only other Scottish entry in the top ten – Edinburgh – taking fourth spot.
Wanderlust co-founder and editor-in-chief Lyn Hughes said: “These awards are based on satisfaction rating from readers who have actually visited the destination in the previous year. It was no surprise to us to see that the Scottish Highlands have taken the award and with a satisfaction rating of an incredible 98.33%.
“This is an area of drama and diversity, of jaw-dropping beauty – no wonder it ticks so many boxes. Walkers, history buffs and nature lovers all fall for its charms, and the hospitality and tourism offerings have improved over the years. What’s more its tranquillity and quiet grandeur make it the perfect detox in this age of noise, clutter and speed.”
Beyond the UK, the 2020 awards marks Namibia’s second Top Country win in a row.
Kyrgyzstan won Top Emerging Destination with a remarkable 100% satisfaction rating.
