Orkney MSP Liam McArthur has vowed to continue to fight for improved ambulance cover in Orkney.
Mr McArthur has fought for change after figures showed that from December 2018 to December 2019, there were 168 occasions when emergency calls in Orkney were left waiting due to the ambulance being on another call.
It has led to Mr McArthur seeking a commitment from the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) to increase capacity.
Meetings with Milne Weir, SAS regional director for the north, have delivered some progress with an agreement to end on-call working.
Mr Weir informed Mr McArthur that enhanced recruitment efforts are being undertaken, alongside offering secondment of more experienced personnel.
Mr McArthur said: “While staff have been doing their level best to respond to demand, they have been put in an impossible position by the lack of resources available.”
