A hill walker on the Glen Nevis region has died after falling from a mountain path.
The 42-year-old man suffered a 30m fall from the Stob Ban trail into a gorge on the south side of the glen.
Police were made aware of the incident around 1pm yesterday.
It took the 19-stong Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team around six hours to evacuate the casualty off the hill in trecherous conditions that included 50mph winds, hail, snow, thunder and lightning.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Inspector Isla Campbell, of Fort William Police Station, said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this time.
“I would also take the opportunity to thank our partner agencies for their assistance.”
