Orkney treatment works have returned to normal service following a pollution incident on Kirbister Loch.
Kirbister Water Treatment Works (WTW) serves around 7,300 properties in the east mainland of Orkney, including Kirkwall, Finstown and Orphir.
The alarm was raised on Monday after fuel pollution from a privately-owned damaged tank ran into the loch.
As a precautionary measure, Scottish Water closed the treatment works while investigations, including enhanced water sampling, were carried out and steps taken to prevent any further spread of the substance.
Kes Juskowiak, Scottish Water’s Water Operations general manager, said: “Our teams have been working since the first reports to contain and clean up the pollution affecting the Loch of Kirbister.
“We have continued to supply safe drinking water to customers from storage tanks within the network and are pleased to have now returned the Water Treatment Works to normal operation.”
