A motorcyclist has died this afternoon following a single-vehicle crash near Tain.
Police confirmed that officers were called to the scene of the accident on the A836 Dornoch Bridge to John O’Groats route around 3.05pm, with the road closed in both directions while investigations were carried out.
A spokeswoman confirmed the man’s next of kin had been made aware.
The road was closed for several hours with motorists advised to seek alternative travel.
The spokeswoman said the motorcyclist died at the scene.

She added: “The man was riding his Honda motorcycle from Ardgay to Edderton around 3.05pm when the crash happened.
“Emergency services attended, but he died at the scene. Relatives are aware.
“If you were in the area and either saw the bike prior to the crash or the crash itself or have any dash-cam footage that may assist officers with their investigation, then please call Dingwall Road Policing via 101.”
Councillor Jim McGillivray expressed his deep sadness last night.
He said: “I am deeply saddened to hear of this incident and my heart goes out to the family of the man involved.
