Independent candidate Calum Munro has been elected to represent Skye Ward 10 Eilean a’ Cheò in Highland Council after previous incumbent Ronald MacDonald stepped down last year.
Mr Munro lives in Kilmuir, near Trotternish, and is a strong advocate of Gaelic, traditional music and song, shinty and community life.
He grew up in the Highlands, with parents from Mull.
He studied Gaelic and Economics at Aberdeen Unviersity and went into Gaelic medium teaching.
After stints in Lochaber, he ended up in Millbank School, Nairn, where he established a Gaelic medium unit.
He settled in Kilmuir in 2008, ran his own joinery business in Skye for a number of years, before teaching adult Gaelic-learners through Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and becoming more involved with the family’s self-catering business.
He has served on Kilmuir community council for the past five years.
