Two north communities have made the top five of a prestigious quality of life list, it has emerged.
Cromarty on the Black Isle and Moray’s largest town Elgin have both ranked highly on The Sunday Times Best Places to Live list for 2020.
Cromarty ranked as the second most desired location by an expert judging panel, beaten only by Leith in Edinburgh, with Elgin taking fifth spot.
The expert judging panel asses an array of factors including schools, transport and broadband speed to culture, green spaces and health of the high street in each location.
Judges have clocked up thousands of miles in order visiting each location to compile the extensive list.
Councillor Craig Fraser, who resides in the Black Isle village, said he was “delighted” but “not surprised”.
He added: “The sense of community in Cromarty blows me away time and time again.
“To be recognised by The Sunday Times that Cromarty is one of the best places to live in is fantastic, but we have known that for years.
“Everybody here knows everybody and the community really do pull together, even more so at times like these, and it is just a wonderful place full of incredible people.”
Dunblane and Dundee came in at three and four respectively.
