Coronavirus: Four new confirmed cases for Highlands as country’s death toll reaches 14

Four more people from the Highlands have tested positive for coronavirus, latest figures show.

A total of 9,364 tests have been carried out in Scotland with 8,865 of them being negative.

The total number of people in Scotland who have tested positive now sits at 499 while 14 people have died after testing positive for the virus.

There are 12 confirmed cases in the Highlands and 24 in Grampian and Shetland. There are no confirmed cases for Western Isles or Orkney.

First minister Nicola Sturgeon said today the figures are likely to be an under-estimate.

Scotland’s chief medical officer Dr Catherine Calderwood added: “These 14 deaths probably each represent up to 1,000 people who have become infected.

“We are going to have to adapt to life in this new world.”
