A charity single made by a host of Scottish traditional musicians to raise money for the NHS went to No 1 in the iTunes charts within hours of being released.
Everyday Heroes, written by Skerryvore’s Martin Gillespie, overtook the likes of Dua Lipa, Harry Styles, Drake and Little Mix to reach the top.
Over the weekend, it slipped to number three – just behind Vera Lynn and Katherine Jenkins’ version of We’ll May Again.
All proceeds from Everyday Heroes will go towards the NHS Charities Covid-19 Urgent Appeal.
Skerryvore were joined by other musicians from Tide Lines, Peat and Diesel, Manran, Skipinnish, Trail West, Tide Lines and Red Hot Chilli Pipers, and former Downing Street press secretary Alastair Campbell, who plays the pipes and is the only amateur musician to feature, for the project.
Mr Campbell shared his joy at reaching No1 on Twitter: “We did it folks. Number 1 in the iTunes single charts raising loads of money for NHS appeal.
“Well done Skerryvore and all that took part. Top of the charts still means something.
“Keep downloading folks, more downloads equals more money for nurses, carers, cleaners etc.”
