Two islanders were taken to hospital following a fire in their Stornoway home this morning.
Quick action by fire crews prevented a blaze ripping through the property on Goathill Road.
A man and woman got out after a smoke detector activated shortly before 7.30am, alerting them to the danger.
They were treated for minor burns, it is believed, and given oxygen for smoke inhalation at the scene before being taken to hospital by ambulance for a check-up.
Smoke spread throughout the property creating damage.
The Shawbost fire crew supplemented two tenders from Stornoway in tackling the incident.
Group manager for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Gavin Hammond, said they faced a “rapidly developing fire” on arrival.
Firefighters wore breathing apparatus to get closer to the seat of the blaze, as they aimed jets of water and high pressure hose to extinguish the flames.
Mr Hammond said: “Due to the swift actions of crews, we brought the fire under control in 30 minutes.”
He urged islanders to have working smoke detectors installed and have a escape route thought out beforehand so people know the way to get evacuate if a similar situation ever happens to them.
“Know your escape route and the location of your closest fire exit. Never wedge fire doors open and close doors behind you when evacuating” to slow the fire spreading, he added.
