Police have warned Shetland residents about a bank/building society scam currently affecting the islands.
Residents have been receiving phone calls from persons claiming to be from their financial provider.
They are being informed that there has been suspicious activity on their account and to transfer money into another account.
This is a scam. Your bank/building society will not ask you to do this.
Police advise that if you receive a call of this nature please put the phone down and prepare to contact your financial provider but with an important proviso- phone another number first as the scammer may still be on the line and pretend to be your bank/building society.
Police are urging everyone to share this information with friends and family.
