A police officer was taken to hospital yesterday after the vehicle he was driving was involved in a collision with an energy company van.
The incident happened shortly after 8am on Bridge Street, Inverness when the police vehicle and an SSE Toyota Hi Lux collided.
The officer was taken by ambulance to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where he was examined for a lower back injury and later released. The male driver of the Toyota was not injured in the incident.
The collision caused traffic disruption for a short period at a busy junction in the centre of the city. The road was closed for a spell and other officers re-directed vehicles away from the scene.
Police said inquiries into the incident are ongoing and appealed for witnesses, including those who may have recorded the incident on a dashboard camera.
Sergeant Alasdair Mackay of the Divisional Road Policing Unit said: “Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to call us on the 101 number, and should quote the reference number 0528 of 18 May, 2020. “
SSE said it would assist police with any inquiries relating to the incident.
Meanwhile, police said two people, aged 20, have been arrested in connection with alleged road traffic offences following an incident in Inverfarigaig yesterday.
Officers stopped a car in Dores Road, Inverness, around 11.40am. Inquiries are continuing.
