Community leaders have condemned “significant and dangerous” acts of vandalism at a beauty spot in the Black Isle.
Bottles were smashed, a picnic table overturned and a beer keg and bins were thrown on a bonfire on the beach near the tennis courts in Rosemarkie.
A grip mat along the path, which allows disabled users reach the beach area safely, was also ripped away.
Anne Phillips, chairwoman of Rosemarkie Amenities, which runs the nearby Rosemarkie Beach Café as a social enterprise, said: “We are very disappointed at the level of damage caused. There have been issues before but this is a different level.”
Fortrose and Rosemarkie Community Council described the vandalism as very significant and dangerous and urged anyone with information to contact police.
Local MSP Kate Forbes said: “I am deeply disappointed to see such destruction and I know it’s been a cause of great sadness to the local community too.
“What took place at Rosemarkie on Tuesday evening is mindless vandalism and I hope those responsible will be found and held accountable for their actions.”
Councillor Gordon Adam said incidents of this type are rare in the area. He hopes police can find the perpetrators and deter any future vandalism.
“It is also worrying that this took place when people should be avoiding contact because of Covid-19. They are endangering themselves and their families.”
