Households will be able to dispose of additional materials as the Highland Council expands services at waste recycling centres.
Electrical appliances, cardboard and bagged household and garden waste will now be accepted at all 16 waste recycling centres open across the north, with hundreds of visits already made by the general public.
The move to stage two comes two weeks after the successful reopening of sites.
Councillor Allan Henderson, chairman of the Highland Council’s Places and Communities Committee said the ability to reopen services quickly is a testament to the public.
“I am delighted we are able to move to the next step and increase the range of items we can accept so quickly after re-opening the sites at the beginning of June,” he said.
“This is testament to the goodwill and cooperation of the Highland public for adhering to advice and guidance provided as well as the hard work from the Council staff operating these busy sites.
“With electrical appliances and cardboard being added to the list of items accepted, along with bagged household waste and garden waste, this provides more opportunities for items to be recycled.”
Electrical appliances include large and small items such as white goods, hoovers, microwaves, televisions/monitors and hairdryers will now be accepted alongside flattened cardboard free from polystyrene and plastic packaging.
Cars and small non-commercial 4 x 4 vehicles are permitted on site with only one person permitted to get out of the vehicle unless absolutely necessary for handling waste or handling heavier goods.
