A landmark visitor centre that usually welcomes more than 50,000 people each year is preparing to mark a special anniversary behind closed doors.
The Calanais Visitor Centre, the gateway to the iconic Calanais Standing Stones on the Isle of Lewis, will mark its 25th anniversary on Tuesday with a virtual celebration.
More than a million visitors have come through the doors over the last quarter of a century and the centre is asking as many as possible to send photographs and memories for a video to be shared on social media.
The centre, which has operated since 1995, also has a cafe and shop and employs 15 people, making it an important local employer.
Donald Macarthur, chairman of Urras nan Tursachan (The Standing Stones Trust) said: “With the ongoing pandemic, we miss seeing old and new faces coming through our doors and marvelling at the stone circle.
“We would love as many people as possible to get involved uploading a photo and sharing their memory with us. Whether you visited us in a gale, wrapped up in your waterproofs, or travelled across the world to see the Calanais Standing Stones, we’d love to see photos and videos of your smiling faces as you visited us here at the Calanais Visitor Centre and the stones.”
