A Highlands and Moray baker has doubled production on a topical take of its popular kilted gingerbread men after they proved a hit with customers.
Nairn-based Ashers has started selling shortbread figures wearing face coverings this week as a reminder of the current Covid-19 guidelines.
The biscuits, which have been branded ‘Law Abiding Scots’, sold out before 10am on their first day behind the counter in Forres, with keen customers continuing to ask for them long after the shelves were bare.
Bakers stocking the company’s 12 stores across the north have now increased production to keep up with the surprise demand.
Pictures of the kilted figures on the firm’s social media prompted a debate about the use of face coverings.
Director Ali Asher said: “We’ve largely had positive feedback on our new products, which were simply a new product development with what is intended as a fun representation of the current conditions we are living in.
“We had not expected the debate it opened on our Facebook post launching the new products.
“We certainly do not want to offend anyone who is against wearing a face covering and they have every right to their opinion on the matter as do people who wear them.
“We just ask that people are kind and respectful to each other.”
