North Uist Distillery has today acquired the iconic Nunton Steadings in Benbecula to serve as its new base for whisky production.
The steadings, one of the oldest surviving structures in the Western Isles, carries with it extensive history with the distillery to add to it by creating the first legally distilled whisky in the southern islands of the Outer Hebrides.
The distillery is co-owned by duo Jonny Ingledew and Kate MacDonald with the new purchase housing distilling operations and a visitor centre.
Miss MacDonald said: “There has definitely been a good stroke of luck that this building has come up for sale as there are not many buildings on Uist like it.
“We are delighted to have found somewhere suitable that has so much character and we are keen to push forward from here.”
