A Shetland hotel has been extensively damaged by a major blaze. The fire broke out around 12.30am at the Moorfield Hotel in Brae. Crews from Brae, Hillswick and Scalloway were first on the scene after reports that the 100-bedroom hotel was “well alight”. Two further appliances from Lerwick and Bixter, along with police and an ambulance, were also at the scene. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has said all of the people in the hotel have been accounted for but the blaze is continuing this morning. A spokesman said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 12.30am on Monday 27 July to a fire in the Moorefield Hotel, Brae in Shetland. “Currently, there are six fire appliances and an ISV on scene.” A large number of the hotel’s rooms are routinely held for the local Shetland Gas Plant, which belongs to French oil and gas giant Total.
