A businessman has died after plunging 1,000ft off a cliff in the Cairngorms National Park.
Daniel Leaf, 55, of Edinburgh, was with a group of friends when the accident happened on a ridge known as the Brow in the Ben Alder area on Saturday.
A Royal Navy helicopter airlifted Mr Leaf, a father of one, from the scene. However he died from his injuries.
A police spokesman said: “On Saturday May 24, we received a report of a hillwalker having fallen approximately 1,000ft from the Prow on Ben Alder.
“The Royal Navy helicopter, Rescue 177, assisted in the recovery but as a result of his injuries, the man sadly died.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”
Mr Leaf was head of investments at the Bank of Scotland’s portfolio management service until 2011, when he took his latest post as manager of the Saracen Global income and growth fund in the capital.
Previously he spent almost 25 years as a managing director at Deutsche Bank and subsequently set up an Edinburgh office for Teather and Greenwood.
Originally from London, where he studied politics and economics at the London School of Oriental and African Studies, he spent the past 20 years living in Scotland. He began his career in stockbroking as an analyst at Wood Mackenzie, where he helped its research team in the Brewing Sector gain the industry’s top ranking.
In his free time he enjoyed football, as a loyal Tottenham Hotspur fan, as well as bridge, skiing, and cinema and music.
Graham Campbell, chief executive of Saracen Fund Managers, said: “Daniel will be remembered as a talented investor, a dedicated member of our team, a good friend and a fine man. We will all miss him dearly and our thoughts are with his wife Sandra and son Sam at this sad time.”
Mr Leaf is the fifth person to die in the mountains this year and the first since March, when a 57-year-old man died on Ben Nevis after a fall on Carn Dearg Buttress.
