A coastguard helicopter has today assisted in transferring a patient between islands on Orkney. Rescue 900, based in Sumburgh, was called to Sanday at the request of the NHS at 11.55am this morning. The patient was taken on board the helicopter for transfer to Kirkwall, where they were handed into the care of the ambulance service. It is believed the patient was transferred to the Balfour Hospital for treatment. Sanday and Kirkwall coast rescue teams also provided assistance by manning the landing sites.
