The Old Military Road in Argyll is being closed as a safety precaution as forecasters warn of heavy rain showers.
The hillside road will be closed from noon today as forecasts indicate sporadic heavy bursts of showers of up to 30mm of rain.
The closure will remain in place overnight prior to a safety check being carried out at first light tomorrow to assess the route ahead of its reopening.
It comes as the Met Office issued a yellow warning for heavy rain across most of Scotland from 1pm until 9pm this evening.
The warning comes just two weeks after a landslip brought down 6,000 tons of debris onto the A83 Rest and Be Thankful, with teams continuing to work around the clock to get the carriageway in working order.
Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “We’ve been paying close attention to the weather forecast and advice from our geotechnical specialists and the safest option is to close the Old Military Road given the potential for heavy rain in the area.
“Safety has to come first and with loose debris present in the steep channels above and below the A83 carriageway we have taken the difficult decision to close the local diversion road for safety.
The closure comes just eight hours after the road was reopened to motorists following repairs to a bend in the road.
All motorists will be diverted via A83, A82, A85 and A819 for the duration of the closure.
Mr Ross added: “We thank the local community and road users for their patience while we do everything we can to address the landslip at the Rest and Be Thankful.”
