Scotland’s top cultural projects for 2020 have been revealed.

The Epic Awards shine a light on the achievements of volunteer-led groups across the UK and Ireland, aim to inspire others to get involved and participate in creative activities.

Previous Scottish winners include Aberdeenshire group Alternativity – who impressed with their modern-day nativity based on Syria’s refugee crisis.

Now the nominations for this year’s awards have been revealed.

BeeKind

They include BeeKind, a community drama show in Aberdeenshire that took inspiration from the teamwork of bees.

The Finzean Community Association spent 2019 putting together the show involving participants aged between four and 75.

Meanwhile, the Castlebay Christmas Tree Project is also nominated for this year’s awards.

The Christmas tree decoration project, on Barra, has engaged knitters on the island and around the world.

Unveiled last December, it encouraged people from all backgrounds to submit their own squares to make the final tree.

Jemma Neville, director of Voluntary Arts Scotland, said: “We are always so impressed by the range of projects that enter our annual Epic Awards, and this year is no different.

“The groups on our 2020 shortlist not only make a huge difference in their own communities, but are shining examples of what can be achieved when volunteer effort and creativity come together.”
