Human remains have been discovered on Raasay, police have confirmed.
A spokeswoman said the discovery was made on Sunday afternoon around 4.40pm in a wooded area near Top Road on the island.
Identification of the remains is still to take place, however, locals believe the discovery is related to reports of a missing person on the island in March 2019.
Alistair Lovie was reported missing on Sunday March 31 2019 with numerous services deployed in the days and weeks following his disappearance, however, he was never traced.
Earlier today, a police spokeswoman said: “Around 4:40pm on Sunday August 23 2020, police received a report human remains had been discovered in a wooded area near Top Road, on the Isle of Raasay.
“Emergency services are in attendance and inquiries are ongoing.
“In respect of whether this is missing person Alistair Lovie – inquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the person and officers are liaising with his family and will update them with any relevant information.”
