An iconic Lochaber landmark was made ready for this week’s forecast of colder weather – when it was wrapped in 400 feet of crochet scarf.
The Glenfinnan Monument got the cosy treatment to mark World Alzheimers Day.
Individual one foot colourful crochet squares were specially made by people from Skye to Adrnamurchan and as far as Torridon in support of the Alzheimer Scotland West Highland.
These were then sewn together creating a giant rainbow scarf to mark not only World Alzheimers day, but also the 40th anniversary year of Alzheimers Scotland.
Lochaber based Alzheimers Activities Co-ordinator, Eleanor Brown said: “I’m sure Bonnie Prince Cjharlie would have approved of this use of his monument. The idea of the scarf has so many connotations as it brings us together, wraps around us, connects us and brings comfort.
“All of this was demonstrated today when we wrapped the monument, never having met the National Trust for Scotland Staff before. They all just connected with us and Darren Anderson the Catering Manager even gave up his day off to help fix the scarfs around the monument.
“It had been our intention to take the scarf ‘on tour’ draping not only the Glenfinnan monument, but Eilan Donan castle and the Skye Bridge but due to corona virus restrictions this has now been postponed until at least the Spring”.
“Donations can still be made to the scarf project, with more crochet or knitted squares always welcome. There is also a just giving page which will help us fulfil our aim than no-one should face Alzheimers alone.”
