A ceilidh band from Tiree has flown straight to number 1 in the world music download charts.
Skipinnish released their new single Walking on the Waves yesterday morning on itunes.
It reached the top spot by only 9.45am.
Band accordion player Angus MacPhail, appeared on Sky News at 7.15am and mentioned the single to Eamonn Holmes as part of an interview about the independence referendum – and this instantly saw sales rocket.
The band have a week now to penetrate the UK singles market and are currently sitting at around 150 – just above Ellie Goulding.
The driving, feel-good love-song was composed by Mr MacPhail, who comes from Tiree, and lead singer, Fort William based Robert Robertson.
Mr MacPhail said: “Since we first performed the song at Runrig’s 40th anniversary party last year, it has proved very popular. It was the obvious choice to release as a single and the response to it has been totally overwhelming.”
