A hillwalker has died after collapsing on the slopes of Ben Nevis.
The man was walking with his wife when he fell ill yesterday morning at around 11.23am.
Other walkers on the hill, including a member of Lochaber Mountain Rescue, a doctor and nurses, came upon the incident and went to help.
The medical personnel carried out cardiopulmonary resuscitation but sadly the man died.
The man, who has not been named by police, was airlifted from the hill by the search and rescue helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth.
Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team was told about the incident but members were not called out.
John Stevenson, Lochaber Mountain Rescue team leader, said: “The man fell unwell on the path and collapsed. One of our team members was already on the hill and came across it. There were nurses and a doctor on the hill, they were trying to assist him by giving CPR.
“Our team member was able to help out. Because there was already medical help on scene the helicopter went straight there.”
