Three people were airlifted to hospital after a serious road accident in Ross-shire yesterday afternoon.
All three were being treated for spinal injuries in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, with one also reported to have suffered serious head injuries.
A police spokesman said that all three had “serious but not life threatening” injuries.
The accident happened on the A832 Garve to Gairloch road, near Achnasheen, at around 3.30pm.
All three casualties were travelling in the same Vauxhall Corsa – the only vehicle involved in the accident, which happened just before 3.30pm yesterday.
The car appears to have been travelling eastwards came to rest on its roof in the middle of the road.
The main road was blocked for several hours as police and ambulance crews attended the scene at the side of Loch A’Chroisc.
The Stornoway Coastguard helicopter attended the incident and airlifted the casualties to hospital.
They were stretchered off once they arrived at Inverness and taken to the hospital in separate ambulances for treatment.
A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said: “Two ambulances and the coastguard helicopter from Stornoway attended the incident.
“Three patients were taken away in the helicopter and were moved to Raigmore.
“All three are being treated for spinal injuries.
“One of them is being treated for a serious head injury.”
A police spokesman said: “All three people were travelling in the same vehicle and there was no-one else involved.
“We received the report of the accident at 3.27pm and the ambulance was also sent to the scene.
“All three have serious but not life threatening injuries.
“The roadway was blocked for recovery of the vehicle.”
Meanwhile, a woman involved in a separate serious accident last week near Muir of Ord remains in hospital in Aberdeen.
The woman, who crashed early on Friday morning on the B9169, is in a “stable” condition in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The 30-year-old was said to have been in a life-threatening condition on Friday after the accident.
