Lochaber Schools Pipe Band has been entertaining thousands of visitors in the magical setting of Disneyland Paris.

The young pipers and drummers were delighted when they were invited to entertain visitors to the fairytale French tourist resort after a thorough audition process.

The band, which is based at Lochaber High School in Fort William, is a self financing group that performs at Highland games, gala days, street parades and charity events in and around the Lochaber area.

And the youngsters spent months fundraising and practicing for the trip.

Band tutor Margaret MacMaster explained that they responded to a request for pipe bands interested in playing for the crowds in Paris.

They submitted a DVD of themselves performing and were selected to lead the parade of Disney characters past Sleeping Beauty’s Castle and through the streets of Disneyland Paris on Saturday.

The band also took part in a concert on the resort’s stage for amateur groups and had the opportunity to spend time sightseeing and enjoying the rides.

Miss MacMaster said: “They were all very excited. It was absolutely brilliant.

“The concert was great, but I think the parade was the best bit for them all. It was the largest crowd they had ever performed in front of.

“It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

The five adults and 16 musicians, aged between 11 and 17, are travelling home to Lochaber today and are expected to return in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

The band, which was originally formed in 1970 as Lochaber Junior Pipe band, performs on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in and around Cameron Square in Fort William from mid June until the end of August.
