A road at Invergordon is to be temporarily closed to vehicles tonight to allow two exceptionally heavy loads over a railway bridge.
The unclassified route U4242 Invergordon – Saltburn Industrial Estate Distributor Road will be shut from the Inverbreakie Industrial Estate road junction to the B817 road between 9pm tonight and 8am tomorrow, Wednesday.
Two 300tonne towheads for the subsea oil and gas industry will travel in a slow moving convoy from the Cromarty Firth Industrial Estate at Smithton via Saltburn to Invergordon port for shipping to the Wester construction facility at Wick
The closure was sought by Subsea 7 Ltd after the load’s route had to be changed because of damage to a bridge over the A9 was struck last week when a lorry carrying an excavator struck it last week.
Highland Council made the temporary order under powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Pedestrian access will be maintained.
Damage to the bridge over the A9 is being assessed.
