Officers were called after he threatened to harm himself in the Cairndow area and the A83 Campbeltown-Tarbet road was closed for several hours. Specialist negotiators were sent to the scene after the alarm was raised at about 4pm. Officers spoke to the man, who was in a wooded area near the busy A83 tourist route, and established that he had a firearm. A police spokeswoman said: “The man died at the scene a short time later. “There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, however police inquiries into the incident are continuing. “A full report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”
