The cream of Argyll’s art talent have donated work to a special charity auction.
In total 25 artists have donated pieces to the show being staged by the Duntrune Trekkers, a group of three friends who are climbing the highest free-standing peak in the world.
World-renowned artist Jolomo has donated an original landscape painting of the isle of Gigha titled Evening Gloaming.
Blair Johnston, 37, Duncan McGregor, 34, and John Kennedy, 23, all originally hail from Ardrishaig. They have each selected three charities close to their hearts and are raising funds for them by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in September.
Mr Johnston, a senior account manager with a bar tending and events company in Glasgow is fundraising for Rainbow Valley, a centre to help benefit anyone affected by cancer.
Mr McGregor, who runs a spray foam insulation company in Glasgow, is raising funds for the Lauren Currie Twilight Foundation which helps people with vasculitis, which causes inflammation of the blood vessels.
Mr Kennedy’s fundraising efforts will help the MS Centre in Lochgilphead, which supports people with the illness. He works for Keyline in Lochgilphead.
Mr Johnston said: “We would like to say a tremendous thank you to all all the artists. It is brilliant, we have had 25 local artists donating paintings. Some did them specially for the auction.”
The work will be exhibited in Gallery 11 at Crinan Hotel Coffee Shop, at Crinan, Argyll, from Tuesday – Saturday (July 15-19) from 9am-9pm each day.
The final bids will be read out and celebrated at a public event in the gallery from 5pm-7pm on Saturday July 19.
Mr Johnston added: “We are hoping this auction will attract a wide audience throughout Scotland.
“Buyers can access the online bidding through ebay from Tuesday July 15 where all art will be displayed on our ebay account site. Access to this ebay auction will be through our website www.duntrunetrekkers.org
“Throughout the gallery viewing week all visitors to the gallery can also place silent bids via provided cards from the coffee shop and Crinan hotel.”
For their major challenge, the men have set a target of £3,900 each and all money raised will be split equally between the three charities.
They will set off to climb the 19,340ft Mount Kilimanjaro on September 26 and the challenge will take 10 days, seven of which will be spent on the mountain.
