Lifeboat crew taking part in a training exercise were diverted to rescue a stricken yacht with five people on board near Plockton.
Volunteers from RNLI Kyle of Lochalsh’s Spirit of Fred. Olsen were flagged down by the skipper of the 39ft vessel, Iona, after it had been caught in strong winds.
It had dragged its anchor and became caught on a mooring, transforming the towing practice session into a real-life one.
One of the lifeboat crew had managed to get on board the Iona which was then safely towed clear of the mooring within an hour.
After the incident, which happened at 8.15pm on Monday, the crew member said: “We train every week to ensure we are always ready with the relevant skills, but we did not expect these skills to be put to the test so soon after practicing them.”
